ABOUT RAFAEL

Rafael Guimarães is a Brazilian artist, entrepreneur and English teacher based in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

He is the son of appellate judge Moacir Danilo Rodrigues (in memoriam) and his mother, a journalist and lawyer (in memoriam), and the grandson of renowned and pioneering watercolor artist Nathaniel Marques Guimarães (in memoriam).

Raised within a family shaped by law, journalism and art, Rafael grew up surrounded by different ways of observing, interpreting and expressing the world.

Art eventually became his own language.

His work is deeply personal and instinctive rather than academic, exploring memory, childhood, vulnerability, affection, loneliness, imagination and human connection.

Childhood is a recurring territory in Rafael's work — not simply as nostalgia, but as a place where emotions existed before we learned how to hide, rationalize or explain them.

Children, ordinary objects, fragments of memory, imperfect lines and sudden areas of color become ways of returning to those emotions through an adult perspective.

His work often exists somewhere between innocence and experience, absence and affection, humor and melancholy.

Rather than explaining every image, Rafael allows the viewer to recognize something of their own story inside it.

Alongside his artistic practice, Rafael is an English teacher with a background in business, marketing and entrepreneurship. His work naturally moves between creativity, communication, education and human connection.

Rafael is happily in love and engaged to Sabrina Ferri.

Together, Rafael and Sabrina actively participate in projects and initiatives connected to social inclusion — not only through financial support, but through accessibility, education and the belief that art, culture, spaces and opportunities should be accessible to everyone.
